Cinco de Mayo is a very important festival, it celebrates the unlikely defeat of the French on May 5, 1862. In the U.S. people host Parties with their family and friends. The colors of the Mexican flag often appeared in costumes and party. The festivals are very lively and happy, they have balloons, streamers, flowers, mariachi bands or Mexican folk music, and traditional Mexican dancing.
There is also another festival called the Day of the Dead, on this day family or friends who have passed away are remembered and celebrated. Day of the Dead is usually celebrated for three days. Graves are decorated with flowers or loved ones' belongings. People make altars at home filled with the things that their loved ones used to have or love. People write short poems or songs honoring their loved ones. Also, many people decorate sugar skulls with colored frosting. The loved ones' favorite food and drinks are made and the whole family celebrates together.
Food
Mexican food includes corn or wheat tortillas, beans, rice, tomatoes, chili peppers, and chorizo, a type of por sausage. Some Mexican foods are tamales, tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, guacamole, pico de gallo, and chalupas. The food which we got today is churros, a type of Mexican dessert.
